Sa Maison and Tal-Milorda are connected gardens. The former takes its name from the bastion on which it was set up, Sa Maison Bastion. The latter is named after Lady Julia Lockwood, who began renting the house and garden on a year-to-year basis, in 1842. The two gardens have interesting features, such as the Gardjola (vedetta) located at the tip of Tal-Milorda Garden, and views of Marsamxett Harbour and Ta’ Xbiex yacht marina. The gardens also feature numerous mature trees, of which interesting species, such as Meryta spp., located at the entrance to the gardens. In view of the different environmental conditions of both gardens, one shady and protected and once exposed and coastal, the two gardens shall be planted with different plant species to create a shade garden and a coastal garden. Extensive restoration of both gardens will take place to restore the pathways, bastion walls and numerous fountains and wells, located within the gardens. Planting shall commence following completion of the restoration phase. Once completed, visitors shall be able to learn about plants species that are adapted to shade conditions and coastal environments.
